Hazard Identification Risk Assessment Risk Control (HIRARC)
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, 1994 – Section 15 All employers are responsible for mitigating risks and exposures leading to potential occupational illnesses and injuries. Employers are blindsided by the hidden costs that take a toll on the organization’s finances such as training and hiring costs, loss of administrative time, machine downtime, higher insurance premiums, low morale among employees and the organization’s image and reputation where the list goes on. The crucial step in risk management is identifying areas that expose the organization to legal liabilities. This identification can be conducted through Hazard Identification Risk Assessment Risk Control (HIRARC) which is compulsory for all employers under the OSHA Act 1994. HIRARC is a detailed and systematic approach for identifying, evaluating, and controlling the hazards of processes. They must be appropriate to the complexity of the work activities. Hazard identification and risk assessment require expertise with an objective judgement with a deep understanding of hazards and risks associated with every process, sub-process and work activity. This assessment focuses on the relationship between the worker, work activities, workplace design and environment. Fire Risk Assessment
It is the due diligence of the business owner and an employer to carry out a fire risk assessment, including measures to reduce or eliminate the risk of fire and identify persons at risk. Fire risk assessment of a building requires relevant technical expertise conducted by a certified “competent” person such as Fire Risk Assessor or the fire department agencies. Fire risk assessment is not merely preparing an evacuation plan, but it involves maintenance of the system, proper planning and providing adequate training for all the occupants in the building to be aware of the risk and hazard and know what to do if such an incident occurs. The principles of fire safety are using the five (5) steps risk assessment approach: Identify the fire hazards. Identify people at risk. Evaluate, mitigate or minimize the risks. Record your findings, prepare an emergency plan and provide training. Review and update the fire risk assessment regularly and whenever significant changes that have an impact on it. Our experienced fire consultant will conduct the site fire risk assessment covering all areas under the client’s control, including evaluation of fire safety management, system and practices. A comprehensive report on best practice control measures will be prepared and presented to the top management to support the gap-closing and decision-making process. |
